IWB vs. OWB Holsters: Which Carry Style Fits Your Setup?
IWB means inside the waistband; OWB means outside the waistband. Both describe where the holster sits, rather than one universal solution for every firearm or wearer. Start with your preferred carry position, clothing, belt, and exact firearm configuration.
IWB: inside the waistband
An IWB holster sits inside the waistband, with a clip securing it to the belt or waistband as designed. Our IWB holster offers an adjustable belt-clip angle, adjustable retention, and an optic cut. The belt-clip cant adjusts for appendix or strong-side carry, and the holster is configurable with or without a concealment claw. Clip options include the DCC Monoblock, standard plastic clip, and UltiTuck option.
AIWB: appendix inside the waistband
AIWB is a type of IWB carry positioned at the front of the waist. Our Wingman AIWB holster uses flexible center shock cord and LAS Stiff Hooks, with a DCC Overhook upgrade offered through its options. Compare the available choices on the product page rather than assuming the Wingman and standard IWB support identical configurations.
OWB: outside the waistband
An OWB holster sits outside the waistband. Our OWB holster comes with the standard paddle installed unless another listed attachment is selected. A belt slide, Tek-Lok, or QLS fork may suit a different mounting preference; options and charges are shown before checkout.
Compare the details that matter
- Firearm fit: select the exact model, not just the manufacturer.
- Lights: check that the exact firearm-and-light combination is listed.
- Attachments: confirm the selected mount matches your holster configuration.
- Clothing and belt: consider where the holster sits and the belt you will pair with it.
- Included accessories: review the product or bundle contents before ordering.
